Albert Clendinen was born in the Bronx, New York in Lincoln Hospital to
the proud parents of Ina Delores & Dennis Clendinen on June 19, 1952. He
was the first of six children.
Albert attended and graduated from Alfred E. Smith High School in the
Bronx. Upon graduation, he attended New York City Community College for
two years.
He met Mary Reyes and they were married on December 26, 1998. Albert
had one birth son Rafael (that he loved with all of his heart whom passed
away in April 2021) and two step-daughters Kenya and Emoni Romain from
a previous union with Linda Doville. Mary had three children Eric, Jay, and
Desiree from a previous marriage. Through their union they had a blended
family of six children. Albert raised each child like they were his very own flesh
and blood. Albert worked for Gladys Hampton Houses and retired after 32
years of dedicated service. His colleagues called him “The Rock” or “Rocky”
but most family and friends affectionately called him ”Al”.
Albert was a Protestant and gave his life to the Lord many years ago. He
believed in helping others and treating people with kindness and humility.
He would give you his last if it meant helping you. Albert loved fishing,
playing a harmonica, listening to music, playing the keyboard, working on
cars, telling great stories like the infamous Herbie and playing music with his
grandchildren.
After the passing of his son Rafael and his best friend Joseph Barnes in
2020, losing them both weighed heavy on his heart and started to take a toll
on him.
Albert “The Rock” Clendinen touched so many lives and will surely be
missed. We love you and will miss you. He leaves to mourn: his loving wife,
Mary; five children, Kenya, Emoni, Eric, Jay and Desiree; sisters, Regina and
Pam; brother, Donald; nine grandchildren, Cristina, Ivelisse, Angel, Jaelee,
Zinnia, Zayden, Sean, Waquetta and Charsity; five great-grandchildren,
Elijah, Isabella, Lilliana, Ezra and Luca; nieces and nephews, Sunisha, Thomas
III, Regie, Pamela Lindsey, Joel Jr., Tamera, Gregory, Jodell, Olivia and Miles;
great-nieces & great-nephews, Javarro, Sanai, Aiden, Londen, Shane, Alivia,
Samone and Jewel, and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends too numerous to mention.
