Alice Armatha Williams was born in Aynor, South Carolina to proud parents Susan Jane ( née Elliott) and Harry Lee Carter on September 16, 1932. She was the eldest of three children born to this union.
Alice attended school in South Carolina, successfully completing her studies and
graduating high school in 1950. Thereafter, she attended college at North Carolina
Central University, graduating in 1954 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. During
this time, she met James L. Williams, Sr. (who predeceased her in 1976). They married in 1958, and moved to Harlem in NYC.
To their loving union two sons were born, James Jr. and Terence. Alice and James Sr.
later relocated to Queens, NY where they continued to raise their family. Alice was
employed as a Home Economics Teacher at various middle schools in Manhattan and
Brooklyn, while James Sr. was employed as a Landscape Supervisor for NYC Housing
Authority.
In 1991, Alice retired from teaching. After her retirement, Alice traveled the world, taking
yearly trips to countries such as Italy, France, China, Brazil, just to name a few. She
was especially fond of cruising and invited many friends and family to accompany her
on these trips.
Alice was also a faithful member of Christ the King Church, attending regularly for over
50 years, where she would be found most Sundays sitting in her favorite pew. A regular
at most church events, Alice was always willing to lend a hand and provide her delicious
baked goods for all occasions.
Alice was an excellent seamstress and loved to cook. She often prepared large,
delicious meals at her home for her family and friends, most notably her delectable
desserts that were enjoyed by all. Alice was also fond of attending the annual Page
Family Reunion, attending nearly every one of these yearly gatherings for over 40
years. Visiting her grandchildren regularly in Maryland was a great source of joy for
Alice as well.
Alice leaves to mourn her passing and cherish her memory: loving sons, James Jr.
(Monica) and Terence (Patsy); sister, Shirley Riley; grandchildren, Jonathan, Jamee,
Jared, MaryAnna and Malaina; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear
lifelong friends.
