CALVIN BOLEN Obituary

Thanks to Laura & Luther Bolen, on January 30, 1934, they gave the world the most incredible gift in the form of a son and named him Calvin.

Calvin grew to be a man of strength, independence, unmistakable character and humor. If you knew him, you knew his routines-wake up, turn on both TV’s (yes, both) & make himself breakfast with tea. Depending on the weather, he’s going downstairs to start his car if it hadn’t been started in a few days. That man wasn’t having that battery die for anything! You know that even if he was only going down to the parking lot, he had on a button-up shirt, slacks and dress shoes. Oh, and please don’t forget the hat! A Kangol cap or baseball hat of course. You knew that he did things his own way and you couldn’t make him do otherwise. For those of us who work, he would tell you “working” was fighting words-since he’s been retired longer than some of us were even born. Calvin wasn’t one for a lot of words or outward emotion, but his presence was solid and steady. You always knew where you stood with him. Though he didn’t use the words, “I love you” often, his love was felt. Whether it be through jokes, a routine phone call or him speaking of you to others. He left an impression not by doing too much, but by being exactly who he was.

To us, he was more than just a title, he was a presence. Someone whose habits, voice and spirit will stay with us long after today. While we grieve his loss, we are also grateful for the memories we’ve all shared with him.

Calvin has touched many lives and will be missed beyond measure. He is survived by his amazing daughter he shared with Rose, Yvonne, five sisters, son, Jason, five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren. Calvin also had a large circle of nieces, nephews, cousins extended family and friends-far too many to name, yet all deeply loved.

Though today our are hearts are heavy, our faith reminds us that this is not the end. He now rests in God’s peace, free from pain and forever held in love. He’s also back home with his loving mother.

"May he rest in the most perfect peace and may his memory remain with us always"
