Connie T. Alexander, 74 of New Haven, CT transitioned to eternal rest on July 31, 2022, in her home. She was born August 13, 1947, in Rutherford, NC to John Henry Toms and Lona Flack. She was the beloved mother of Jamal Alexander of New Haven and Janine (Terrance) Franklin of Hamden. In addition to her children she is survived by her sisters, Lonnie Snyder of East Haven, Ruth (Ellsworth) Simmonds of Hamden, Crystal (Vince) Daniel of Forest City, NC and Joann W. Blake of Potomac, MD. Additionally she leaves to mourn her passing her four grandchildren, Brian (Chila) Westley, Sr. of Naugatuck, Tamika (T’nauri) Woodbridge, Corey Sampson and Janaya Winstead of Hamden; eight great grandchildren, one great great grandchild and several nieces, nephews, and host of other loving relatives & friends. In addition to her parents, Connie was predeceased by her brother, William Henry Toms and her brother-in-law, Dr. Richard Blake. Connie moved to Connecticut in 1961 and was a 1963 graduate of James Hillhouse High School. She received her bachelor's of business administration from the University of New Haven in 1977. She had been previously employed by the United States Postal Service and was currently a substitute teacher for New Haven Public Schools. Connie was an avid reader and could never pass up a good read, she even helped in naming her first grandchildren by looking up the meaning of their names. She was known for her "famous" potato salad. To know Connie was to lover her. She had high expectations of her grandchildren and rewarded them with gifts for their good grades. She loved to spoil her youngest grandchildren with tons of candy whenever she saw them and the perfect gifts for Christmases and birthdays.
