DAVID L. LAYNE
November 19, 2023 (age 66) 66 Years Old
Be the first to offer your condolences on DAVID's Tribute Wall
David L. Layne was born in 1957, to his awaiting parents the Late Wilfred and Louise Layne. He was reared in the way of the Lord. David loved God and accepted God as his Savior at a young age.
David matriculated his Education in the NYC Public School system. He attended Brooklyn College followed by the NYPD Academy where he graduated with Honors in 1992. David had several jobs during his lifetime. His favorite job was when he became a DOT/NYPD Traffic Enforcement Agent. Then he became an NYPD Parking Control Specialist and retired as a Peace Officer. David enjoyed music, biking, traveling, nature, comics, and science fiction. Anyone who knew him knew he was an advent “Trekker” for life. He loved anything Star Trek.
It was during David’s tenure at Brooklyn College, that he saw a twinkle across the campus in the person of Celeste Bradsher; and for David it was love at first sight. After a delightful courtship they were married in the year 1986. To this union was born a beautiful baby, Celestina. Celestina was the delight of his life for he was very proud of all their accomplishments, especially when Celestina graduated college with honors. David loved his family and enjoyed traveling and spending time with them. Growing up together he vowed and became his sister Yvonne Shackelford’s protector until his death. David stayed true to his word. David kept the family first and there was nothing they would not do for each other, whether it was driving each other to appointments, sitting by each other’s hospital bedside, exchanging music, or making each other laugh. David loved to sit and talk with his cousin Joyce and family during the holidays. They often kept each other going. He had a melodic voice and enjoyed a plethora of music. He felt blessed each time he sang with the Men’s choir at Brooks. After some time, David was blessed with a son, Daniel. David was a loving husband, a loving father, a loving brother, and a friend to those whom he came in contact with.
As a younger man, David attended the Christian Cultural Center (CCC). As time went on, after moving to Queens, NY he aligned himself with the Brooks Memorial United Methodist Church where he worked diligently in his passion; the Media Ministry, making sure mics, cameras, social media, and the likes were in order until he was no longer able to do so.
Preceding him in death are his parents, Wilfred and Louise Layne, his sister, Cleo (Candy) Shackelford; his Father & Mother In-Law Bradsher's, His Sister and Brother in-law.
David leaves to cherish his loving memories: his wife Celeste; his children Celestina and Daniel, daughter in law Kayleigh and Grandson Noah, his sister Yvonne (Redd), Sister In Law Herlema's family, Nieces, Nephews, cousins Joyce and family, Louis Thompson, Helen Warren, Lakisha Pérez, Jerry Mallory, and a host of other family and friends.
