Khemali Ganee’ Murray entered into this world
on June 14, 1971, the eldest of two children born
to Georgette and Michael Murray in Washington,
D.C. Khemali was affectionately known as
“Screaming Mimi”, this was her big debut to her
soon-to-be stage life.
Khemali began her educational journey at All
Saints Catholic School in Harlem then continued
her studies at Saint Gabriel’s Catholic School
and completed high school at Thomas Edison
in Queens; not only being where she acquired
her diploma but also her life-time friend. She
received a four-year scholarship to attend City
College and graduated Cum Laude. Khemali
traveled aboard to various countries and even spent time backpacking
through Europe while learning a second language.
Khemali, always being ambitious and passionate about the arts, wore
multiple hats in her field and mastered any crafts she undertook; however,
her first true love was always being in front of the camera. Anything she
set her mind to she never gave up on and this consisted of acting, editing,
writing, shooting, directing, real estate and entrepreneurship: her famous
quote was “I CAN DO THAT” which she could and she did! She had a love for
animals and even contemplated becoming a veterinarian. She possessed
a genuine soul which showed an enormous love for children, animals
and people. Everyone that ever encountered Khemali, immediately was
drawn into her sensitivity, strength, humor, courage and warm nature as
an individual. From schools to her jobs at P.J. Clarks to Digulio Group to
her starting her own business venture ironically in this field.
Khemali’s spirit, compassion and her infectious smile will always be
missed but never forgotten. This is a Celebration of Khemali’s short life.
She would want this remembrance of her to be a happy one especially
her funny expressions, her laugh and her jokes (whether in good or bad
taste). Her commitment to living life was humongous. So Khemali, keep
shining like it’s showtime because this is your time.
Khemali leaves to cherish her memory: mother, Georgette; father, Michael;
brother, Mikael; nephews, Mason and Jacob; Aunts, Dorothea “Debbie”,
Arlene and Angie; uncle, Nelson; special cousins, Randy, Cortney, Rod and
Elliott; first cousins, Keisha, Kimmy, Carla, Ruppert, Keith, Kevin, Vanessa
and Wendell; best friends, Michelle, Katie and Tasha, and a host of other
relatives, godchildren and friends too numerous to mention.
