Lawrence M. Bosley, affectionately called “Larry”, was born in New Haven, CT on
September 10, 1932, to Natalie and Louis Bosley. He was the sixth of eight siblings
(Evelyn, Arthur, Lewis, Edna, Harry, Dorothy and Geraldine). After graduating from
James E. Hillhouse High School, he attended college briefly but then decided to enlist in
the United States Army to proudly serve his country whereas he received the Bronze Medal.
Later in life Lawrence met and married Flora Vincent (who preceded him in
2000) and of that union came two children, Tracy and Tamara. He worked briefly with
his sister Evelyn and her husband Curtis at their neighborhood store and also for NY
Central Railroad before moving on to work for the phone company. After 39 years of
dedicated service, Lawrence retired in 1992 from NYNEX (now known as Verizon) as a
Telephone Technician.
“Larry” resided at Sack-Wern Houses for 50 years and was quite
the “social butterfly”. He had lots of friends (although opinionated), but he always told
the truth. He loved talking/debating politics and history. He was passionate about
Football (played while in high school), Baseball and Basketball. He enjoyed going to
the beach and traveling. His greatest LOVES of all was his family, friends, Jazz and J.C.
Penney. He shopped at J.C. Penney so much that he got to know the entire staff very
well. All family members gifts were purchased from J.C. Penney.
Lawrence will most be remembered for his special qualities: intelligence, funny,
friendly, hard worker, argumentative and a superb listener (when he wanted to be).
Lawrence touched many lives and will be deeply missed. He leaves to cherish his
loving memory: daughters, Tracy Powell, Tamara Oliver, Edna Bosley; grandchildren,
Elizabeth Vincent, Indigo Oliver, Corey Oliver, Clinton Oliver, Taniqua Lyons, Shakira
Clark,; great-grandchildren, Kayla and Christopher Clark; sister, Geraldine Rollins; sons-
in-law, John Powell and Craig Oliver; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and
friends too numerous to mention.
