Phyllis Boyce Obituary

Phyllis Boyce also known as “P.M. Boyce” was born in Georgetown, Guyana on October 24,
1948. She was the 7th of 15 children (10 girls & 5 boys), born to the union of Walter and
Constance Boyce.
Phyllis attended St. Angela’s R.C. Primary School where she stood out in an artist realm. She
was vivacious with an outstanding personality demanding everyone’s attention. After
passing her common entrance exam, she was offered a scholarship to St. Roses High School
which she declined due to her religious beliefs, she however stayed on at St. Angela’s where
she wrote and excelled in the College of Preceptors exam. Phyllis then set her path on being
a teacher and was accepted at the Training College. She completed her course with honors
and did her first placement in Charity Pomeroon where she succeeded and gained a
meaningful transfer back to Georgetown and taught at various schools before migrating to
the USA in 1969, she attended the University of North Carolina and obtained a degree in
business.
Phyllis is an American Author, Poet, Mentor and Philanthropist. She is the author of the
award-winning memoir, “Mom Taught Values”, which has been highly praised for its
advocation of morals to children and adults. Her work has received special honors at the
2015 New York Book Festival, her writing is featured internationally in bookstores, libraries
and schools and has been widely circulated in Canada, USA, South America, India and
England. P.M. Boyce’s most recent publication, “365 Days of Daily Quotes”, was published in
2020 to great acclaim. Her newest book project is due to be released in 2023.
Prior to officially becoming a Writer, Phyllis worked as an Educator, as well as an Executive
Assistant in New York City’s Financial District for one of the very powerful dealmakers on
Wall Street. When a rheumatoid arthritis diagnosis led to her early resignation from her
position at age 42, she channeled her entrepreneurial skills instead towards the founding of
Eco Resource Systems, a successful laser printer recycling firm which she directed for many
years. It was; however, Phyllis’ unrelenting love of poetry, literature and composition that
compelled her to eventually obtain a diploma from the Children’s Writing Institute of New
York.
Although now officially retired, Phyllis has never been one to sit idly; she continuously made
advancements and generated advantages out of perceived setbacks. In 2011, Phyllis used her
multifaceted knowledge about her health condition as the creative genesis for “Ask Phyllis
Arthritis Blog”, a valuable online resource providing readers with detailed information and
insights on specific aspects of arthritis. Her specialized blog column dedicated musicians and
arthritis have been regularly featured by Canada’s Neapolitan Connection Concert Series and
have attained worldwide readership. In 2012, Phyllis founded the brand Positivity Phyllis, a
daily online newsletter subscription which has gained popularity and generated an
impressive following.

Despite Phyllis’ forty-three-year battle with rheumatoid arthritis and complicated by other
medical challenges, she always held strong to her faith and believed in her healing. She
always retained her trademark upbeat manner and continually shines as an infectious beacon
of positivity on family, friends, colleagues and all those who have had the pleasure of
meeting her.
Ever a lover of word, some of Phyllis’ favorite pastimes were reading, writing poetry, solving
crossword puzzles and doing word games which kept her mind active. When not busy
pursuing writing endeavors, Phyllis known as the “Queen”, enjoyed spending time with her
royal subjects (family, many nieces and nephews). She was celebrated by her royal subjects
on her birthday (October 24th ) and to everyone’s dismay and surprise, she passed on October
28th . She was loved and will be greatly missed by all.
