Mrs. Sadie Louise Richardson Ferguson, was born and raised on November 16, 1930 in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina to the late John Richardson and Earnestine Davis.
Sadie attended Laing Elementary & High School in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. She was joined in holy matrimony to the late Clarence Ferguson and to this union two children were born: Marvin K. Ferguson who preceded in death in August 2020 and Eric M. Ferguson who preceded in death in July 2003.
Sadie then moved to New York City with her older sister Helen “Nana” Brown where she helped raised many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. She became a member of Mount Zion AME Church and later moved her membership to Christ Church under the leadership of Reverend T. W. Foster. She worked as a Home Health Aide for two lovely ladies for many years while also adopting and taking care of most of her grandchildren with assistance from Nana.
“Dee”, as she was affectionately known by all, loved her church. She was stern, set in her ways and didn’t take any mess.
“Dee” touched the lives of many, especially children in her family, in her church and in her community. You could always depend on her for a good meal, and she did not believe in sparing the rod and spoiling the child. She also loved telling people how misbehaved she was as a child. “Dee” loved her puzzle books, a cold Pepsi and Daytime TV (CBS).
“Dee” leaves to cherish fond memories: twelve grandchildren, Shondel, Tasheima, Tyshawn, Tamika, Tiffany, Taquesha, Tyquan, Tia, Taneja, Ahmaad, Ahmaade, Trevor; nine great-grandchildren, Eriq, Olivia, Li’Naya, Tristan, Sincere, Tymier, Adonis, Mackenzie and Landyn; two brothers, Benjamin Richardson, William Richardson; and one sister, Wilhelmina Coakley and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends too numerous to mention.
